Abstract:
Jupyter Notebook applications have become increasingly popular online. However, the threats against this application are also on the rise. Each year, the attacks and exploitation techniques are becoming more sophisticated. Through the first ever Jupyter Notebook keyword combination study relating to security, we provide evidence of the challenges in properly securing Jupyter Notebook applications online. To overcome these challenges, we propose an automated security solution called jupmate. The tool utilises a defence-in-depth strategy referred to as the Jupyter Multi-Layer Security (JMLS) Model. It is still currently in development. However, we have a proof of concept that showcases the automation that is possible to overcome the security challenges posed to Jupyter Notebook applications online.
