Abstract:
In September 2012, the Flemish Government (Department of Culture, Youth, Sport and Media and the Agency for Arts and Culture) launched www.immaterieelerfgoed.be, a digital database and interactive website for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in Flanders. This online platform facilitates the exchange of know-how and expertise on ICH and is a tool for identification, inventorying and safeguarding ICH. It is designed to be a knowledge hub for all communities, tradition bearers, organizations and experts that are involved in ICH in Flanders. It also aims to increase opportunities for this heritage by strengthening heritage communities in safeguarding their ICH. With this platform, its bottom-up approach of (digital) inventorying ICH and safeguarding measures and its interactive design, the Flemish Government brings `inventorying ICH' digitally to the core of the UNESCO-Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
