Abstract:
The issue of the reliability of IP networks has only matured recently as equipment manufacturers tried to match the performance standards of the telecom industry. Oddly enough for a network that was originally designed to withstand failures, the specific characteristics of IP make the achievement of reliability harder than in traditional telecom settings. This paper explores the causes and cures of unreliability in IP networks, and presents the basics of nonstop routing.
