This paper presents the main disadvantages of receipts printed on thermal paper, underlining the impact that BPA (component of thermal paper) has on the environment and human health. The conceptual solution proposes to use the near-field communication (NFC) protocol available in smartphones, integrating a virtual receipt printing device (called e-receipt) at the end of the contactless payment chain.
