Abstract:
Recent advances of virtual reality and augmented reality technologies has had a significant impact on development of various immersive learning applications. It has been proven that immersive viewing experience combined with interactive elements can significantly improve understanding of various aspects of problems, therefore improving overall learning experience. This paper specifically suggests a novel approach for the development of intelligent personal trainer assistants for VR devices. Personal trainers aim to instruct users in performing certain types of exercises, analyze movements in real-time and provide interactive feedback during the workout session. In addition to the VR device, which serves as an immersive output, we have utilized a smartphone for real-time analysis of users’ form and posture. For this aim we will develop a companion application for smartphone that will perform necessary movement analysis and generate output containing corresponding feedback regarding body posture. Subsequently, generated textual feedback will be transmitted to VR device in order to be pronounced by the trainer. It has been proven that this form of training significantly increases learning gain, leading to better overall training experience and concentration. Moreover, real-time analysis and correction of form and posture contribute to injury free execution of the movement, resulting in better physical gains.
