The aim of this paper is to present the Smart Surveillant - an intruder alert system using CmuCam3, and to describe its functionality. The paper explains the design, applications, scope and restrictions of the Smart Surveillant, in detail. The paper provides details about how the cmucam3 works and the techniques that are used to build the Smart Surveillant. The frame differencing technique of CmuCam3, which is used to do motion tracking, is explained in detail in this paper.
