Abstract:

A new image quality index for JPEG XT images is proposed in this paper. JPEG XT is a new standard for still image coding which has the backward compatibility with the legacy JPEG. The main target of JPEG XT is to efficiently compress High Dynamic Range (HDR) images. There is a problem on evaluation of encoded HDR image's quality. In this paper, an image quality index using zero-run-length of quantized DCT coefficients is proposed. The experimental results on evaluating quality of JPEG XT encoded images demonstrate that the proposed index is capable of evaluating the quality of JPEG XT images. Moreover, the computational complexity of the proposed index is lower than the other measurement such as FSIM.
