Abstract:

This paper presents an ultra-low power human motion detection sensor using electrostatic induction. A dedicated chip that enables human motion detection with ultralow power is newly designed and the measurement result of the fabricated chip shows that the chip consumes only 30 nW for detecting human motion, which is smaller than 1/100 of the power dissipation of the conventional human proximity sensors. As one of applications of the proposed ultra-low power motion detection sensor, we finally demonstrate a contactless remote light switch, which is battery-operated yet lasts long without battery replacement.
