Abstract:

IoT devices with inadequate security measures can be exploited in cyber attacks by being infected with malware. By grasping and managing IoT devices, it would be possible to take countermeasures such as firmware updates and removal of unnecessary IoT devices. In this paper, we propose and develop a management support system for IoT devices based on observation of Wi-Fi frames and the Wi-Fi channel state information. Our system runs on a laptop PC and first obtains the list of IoT device addresses based on frame observation. Then, our system supports the user in associating an address with an IoT device. In our system, by holding user’s hand over an IoT device, the channel state of the wireless frame transmitted from the device changes, and our system estimates and displays an address candidate of the IoT device to the user. We develop our system and evaluate fundamental performance through experiments.
