Abstract:
Recently, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) antenna technology is becoming one of the hot research topics due to its low-cost hardware and powerful functions for wireless area. RIS is installed with many unit cells using some low-cost circuits to make each cell control the reflected waves of radio signals to desired directions in a smart ways. RIS can focus all reflected waves to receiver which largely increases the link power and the capacity. In addition, it can increase the total number of channel patterns, which means the huge capacity of spatial modulation (SM), with the aid of the controlling of unit cells. The optimal target of SM constellations design it to maximize the minimum distance among the constellations using optimal phases of all unit cells. However, due to large number of unit cells, it is difficult to find an optimal solution in terms of channel patterns, basically because this constitutes an NP-complete combinatorial optimization problem. In this paper, we propose an efficient channel pattern selection based on genetic algorithm (GA) which shows better set distance than that of using random selection method.
