Abstract:

Improving livelihood by environmental monitoring is realized by sensor data, e.g. temperature, humidity, light and CO2. Bluetooth mesh is getting attraction to deploy large-scale sensor networks. Bluetooth mesh uses a flooding method that forwards packets to all nodes within the communication range to improve packet delivery rate without acknowledgement. However, if there are nodes in the network with limited transmission paths and packets are lost between them, the E2E (End-to-End) packet delivery rate will decrease. Therefore, we propose a transmission count optimization method to control the number of transmissions in Bluetooth mesh, which appropriately increases the parameter of the number of transmissions only for nodes with limited transmission paths. This improves approximately 1.3 points (Default: 98.46%, Proposed: 99.76%) of the E2E packet delivery rate while reducing the increase in power consumption from conventional approach.
