Abstract:

This research project is part of the participation in NASA’s Human Exploration Rover Challenge. The project seeks to inspire primary and secondary school students to pursue research. A group of students and professors from ECCI University carried out in-person and virtual workshops with children from different schools in Colombia, where they created robotic space prototypes with homemade materials. Activities such as the Space Mission at Home, where about 2000 children participated, were carried out. As a result of this event, the research group created a video tutorial titled “arma tu propio rover perseverance en casa”, which was published on the NASA website ciencia.nasa.gov. The video now has over 32,000 views on YouTube. An exciting outcome of this project was winning first place in the 2020 NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge in the STEM Engagement category, which had 105 universities competing from around the world.
