Abstract:
This paper presents the performance analysis of angular diversity receivers (ADRs) in visible light communication (VLC) for multi-cell networks. Different ADR configurations are compared through numerical analysis for indoor down-link scenarios, they are: square pyramid (SP), square frustum (SF), hexagonal pyramid (HP) and hexagonal frustum (HF). Additionally, three receive diversity techniques are applied: selection combining (SC), equal gain combining (EGC) and maximum ratio combining (MRC). It is shown that the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and bit error rate (BER) is improved when the frustum type ADR with SC is used. Our results also indicate that the HP and HF ADR, which has 6 photo detectors (PDs) on the side, do not improve the BER performance compared to the SP and SF type with 4 PDs on the side when SC is applied.
