Abstract:

Operating in the 2.4 GHz unlicensed ISM band, a Bluetooth piconet inevitably encounters interference from other Bluetooth piconets. In the literature, the focus has been mainly on the analysis of the collision probability ( P/sub c/) of a Bluetooth packet. The destructive effect of packet collisions could be mitigated by the attenuation introduced by the propagation distance. We present a method to compute the packet error rate (PER) over distance in the presence of multiple Bluetooth piconets. The numerical results give insights on how to choose the optimum packet type in a multi-Bluetooth interference environment.
