Abstract:
Given the growing need for new monitoring features in distribution grids, this work proposes architecture and validation tests of a platform for testing in real time monitoring applications for static and dynamic conditions. The platform accommodates in particular the high accuracy and reporting rates of the Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) together with flexible support for software monitoring applications. A simple example of a dynamic monitoring application, which tracks voltage sags, is presented. The modular structure of the testing platform allows a plug and play mode of testing the applications, which makes it easy to compare, in this demonstration case, different sag detecting algorithms. In this paper three different methods namely the Root Mean Square (RMS) method according to IEC 61000-4-30 standard, PMUs and standard DQ transformation method to detect sags in three phase systems is presented.
