Abstract:

Power equipment is prone to various internal insulation defects, which are difficult to be detected from the outside. A method based on reflective terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) was proposed to detect metal impurities in insulation materials and cable interlayer moisture. Flat samples were made to test the method. The negative peak value, positive peak value, and peak-to-peak value of reflected pulse were used as characteristic parameters for detection and imaging. Edge detection and defect area counting were used to evaluate the imaging parameters. The results show that the negative peak value had the best performance for metal impurities imaging, while the positive peak value was better for cable interlayer moisture imaging.
