Abstract:
A new variable-speed wind energy conversion system (WECS) with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and three single phase PFC rectifier is proposed, which contains only three common emitter switches in the structure. This topology has several advantages compare to conventional six switch rectifier such as low cost, simplicity, and robustness. A carrier based PWM modulation is also proposed for the presented rectifier and compared to hysteresis current control strategy. Space vector modulation and the limitation of applying vectors imposed by the rectifier configuration are described which can be also used for fixed frequency operation. As power conditioner, a vector controlled voltage source inverter is employed to deliver extracted energy to grid. An experimental prototype rated at 1kw has been prepared which the results verifies the theory and simulations.
