Abstract:

GPS localization is the technique of using the GPS (Global Positioning System) to pinpoint the exact location of a device or object on the surface of the planet. Due to a variety of circumstances, including satellite geometry, signal blockage, atmospheric conditions, multipath effects, and several other causes, GPS signals can occasionally experience mistakes and inaccuracies. In road networks, GPS localization methods primarily target on-road cars. Several GPS localization methods are used frequently in road networks in the modern era, including Differential GPS (DGPS), Dead Reckoning, Sensor Fusion, Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS, and map-matching. The technique that is used is determined by the application needs, such as precision, dependability, and availability of GPS signals, as well as by the infrastructure and financial constraints that are in place. This paper offers an evaluation of various GPS localization methods that are frequently utilised in road networks along with some of the challenges faced in using these techniques.
