Abstract:

Reversible logic is one of the emerging methodologies that promises zero energy dissipation. It also has applications in Multiple Function generation, Fault Tolerant Designs, Optical Information Processing, Quantum Computing, Bio Informatics, Low Power VLSI etc., The ALU being the brawn of any computing device deserves to be fault tolerant in the mean while dissipating zero power. This paper proposes a new gate called Parity Conserving Multi Functional (PCMF) Gate which is Fault tolerant by its very nature which can used to design effectively the components of an ALU. The proposed gate has high flexibility as compared to its counterparts in literature.
