Abstract:

This paper introduces a new, low-complex method of inserting error patterns to obtain candidate codewords in information set based decoders. This method will be referred to as Modified Error Insertion Technique (MEIT). MEIT (to be pronounced ‘meet’) is much less complex compared to the conventional method used in information set based decoders. In this paper, the complexities of MEIT and the conventional method have been compared using Ordered Statistics Decoding (OSD) of order-1 and order-2. From the results, it has been observed that as the data rate increases, the complexity of the conventional method becomes very high. MEIT reduces this complexity to a large extent. So, it is computationally very efficient, which in turn makes the decoding process much faster.
