Abstract:

In the modern era of wireless communication reconfigurable radios are becoming very popular due to its ability to operate with diverse frequency range with the same hardware. One of the important aspects of such a radios is the antenna. This paper reports a new, compact reconfigurable antenna with the size of 22 × 16 × 1 mm3. The designs are carried out using FR-4 substrate which has 4.05 dielectric constant with thickness of 1 mm with 0.02 loss tangent. The proposed antenna uses the concept of T-slot in the radiating patch, which separates antenna into three parts and an E-slot in the ground plane. The radiating patch is connected by two PIN diodes for the reconfigurable operation. When the diode D1 is OFF and D2 is ON then this antenna works for 3.9 GHz, 8.9 GHz and 11.2 GHz frequencies. When the diode D1 is ON state and D2 is OFF state then this antenna is switched at 4.1 GHz, 8.4 GHz and 11.3 GHz resonant frequencies. This antenna is useful for the Wimax, C-band, X-band and fixed satellite communication systems.
