Abstract:
Silicon photonics has matured to become an important platform for photonics integrated circuits (PICs) due to its compatibility with the CMOS process, which enables electronics and photonics to be integrated on the same chip. One of the main applications driving silicon photonics is on-chip WDM networks for optical interconnects. These applications often require add-drop filters with high frequency selectivity and low group delay dispersion. In this paper we give an overview of recent progress in the development of advanced silicon PICs based on microring resonators for WDM filter applications. The issue of post-fabrication tuning of silicon components to correct for fabrication imperfections will also be addressed.
