Abstract:
This paper discusses the excitation methods on the active film for the morphing control of the thin shell reflectors for space Active Optics; the polymer materials are considered for this application. Two main implementations of generating strain actuation are examined: (1) charging the electrodes with active film in between and (2) injecting the electron flux on the surface of the active film. A compound actuation strategy is also reported for hierarchical control of shape refinement of the large primary mirror for a space telescope.
