Abstract:
In this study, we propose a chereme-based Sign Gloss Recognition (SGR) system based on the phonology of Korean Sign Language Grammar officially published by the National Institute of Korean Language. In order to evaluate the feasibility of the concept, we implement a protype test bed consisting of two different chereme recognition blocks and a keyframe detection block. Experiments using test bed demonstrate the capability of chereme-based SGR. In addition, we present the advantages of cherem-based SGR over gloss-based SGR, as well as research challenges derived from experimental results and analysis.
