Abstract:
The existing wireless video transmission scheme has the cliff effect. When signal to noise ratio is lower than the decoding threshold, the video quality drops dramatically. Recently, a novel approach called SoftCast has shown the characteristics of overcoming cliff effect, but it has never been integrated into a universal communication system. This paper is devoted to implement and design SoftCast in LTE system. In this paper, we design an adaptive mapping scheme for SoftCast transmission signal in LTE frame structure according to the available bandwidth of LTE physical layer and the image size. With the purpose of improving video quality and reducing peak to average ratio (PAPR) in OFDM system, we proposed to quantize the transform-domain coefficients in SoftCast and random mapping OFDM symbol scheme. The whole LTE-based SoftCast systems are implemented on our self-developed high performance software defined radio (SDR) platform named Software Universal Platform (SOUP). Our results on SOUP show that these schemes have 3-5dB performance gains compared with SoftCast. Furthermore, the application of SoftCast into LTE makes the wireless video transmission system more stable and robust.
