Abstract:
One of the most precious resource limited assets of any consumer technology firm is their investment in R&D. So it is widely understood that R&D investment decisions must be allocated in a way to achieve the maximum benefit to the company. Many companies however still make R&D resource allocations based on 1st generation methodologies that fail to optimize this investment. 2nd generation R&D planning methodologies do a better job of mapping R&D projects to products but still fall short of optimization. This presentation will provide a 3rd generation framework for technology planning as well as methods to assess your firm's current technology portfolio. By applying 3rd generation methodologies to the allocation of R&D to specific projects, firm's will be able to gain maximum advantage of their R&D investments.
