Abstract:

If a comprehensive overview of the state of health of a person is needed, the heart-rate alone is not sufficient. Beside the heart-rate and the blood pressure everything regarding to the respiratory complex is needed. With these two aspects a complete statement about a person's health status can be conducted. The conventional way to measure the oxygen saturation is the blood gas analyzation, which is a labor diagnostic technique and very exact. Another very popular technique is the pulse- oxymetry, which is a non invasive technique widespread in ambulance services and more and more in everyday gadgets like sport watches and sport wrists. As presented in [1] and [2] a complete contact free heart-rate measurement based on the photoplethysmography technique is not only possible but also capable to achieve great results compared to gold standards like electro cardiogram. From this starting point the adoption of the well established technique is obvious. Therefore our goal is to present a method of oxygen saturation measurement based on the technique of photoplethysmography in this paper. By using the technique presented in [1], [3] and [4] we are able to achieve a comparative high accuracy within the same framework, because it not only works for different lighting conditions as well as for gentle movement of the participants.
