Abstract:

By deploying the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can fulfill the ubiquitous connectivity requirements for future wireless networks. However, the spectrum sharing among UAVs will cause the severe interference. Beamforming is a promising technology to reduce the interference; however, UAVs are easily to be affected by the turbulence of airflow, which can lead to the imperfect beam alignment and degrade the network performance consequently. In this work, we investigate the performance of UAV communication under imperfect beam alignment. Specifically, based on the stochastic geometry, we come up with a tractable mathematical framework to capture the network outage probability in the presence of beamforming and orientation error. The correctness of the analysis is further verified by simulation. Our results suggest that, in the presence of orientation errors, a greater number of antennas (equivalently, the narrower half-power beamwidth) may not be beneficial to the network performance and it should be carefully designed.
