Abstract:

The energy efficiency of the user terminal for multimedia wireless communications becomes increasingly important in order to extend the battery lifetime and enhance the user experience. In this paper, we study the energy consumption tradeoff between the network and user equipments (UEs) in small cell networks. This paper formulates a novel optimization problem aiming to balance the energy consumptions and proposes an optimal solution using the sleep/wake-up control based on Single Source Capacitated Plant Location Problem (SSCPLP) model. We also propose a simple heuristic solution with less computational complexity to this problem. The simulation results show that the proposed heuristic solution performs closely to the SSCPLP based solution. The tradeoff between the network energy consumption and UE energy consumption is also demonstrated.
