Abstract:
Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms are used to track the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of photovoltaic (PV) arrays. Different Algorithms have been introduced, in order to enhance the performance: the tracking speed, oscillations around the MPP, and PV limitations due to partial shading. In this paper, the Perturb and Observe (P&O) and the Three Points Quadratic Approximation (TPQA) have been implemented and synthesized using VHDL. The tracking speed and implementation area of both designs are compared. The tracking time is enhanced in the TPQA by 90.7% at the expense of the area.
