Abstract:

LCL filters are preferred over L and LC filters for inverters in PV systems due to their superior harmonics attenuation with smaller component sizes with associated cost reduction. Although there are many design procedures proposed for LCL filters, most of them are relatively complex and do not provide with an optimal solution. This paper proposes a relatively simple yet efficient LCL filter design method which provides an optimal solution. The paper analyzes the parameters related to the filter that needs to be minimized, and proposes a method to optimize the filter. The performance of the design is validated with simulation results in MATLAB and experimental results using a hardware prototype. Finally, a comparison is provided with the state-of-the-art design methods currently available.
