Abstract:

Single-Inductor Multiple-Output (SIMO) regulators have recently gained momentum as viable solutions that can provide multiple domains to Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) in a miniaturized area. For portables, area is a primary cost metric for achieving high efficiencies and power densities. A best-area-utilization technique is, therefore, of importance. This paper outlines an approach to modeling and optimization of SIMO buck converters running in continuous conduction mode (CCM) and subject to an area constraint. Results are assessed against both behavioral and circuit-level simulations.
