Abstract:
The increasing number of cars and bicycles and the growing population make traffic systems more and more unstable. One accident can lead to a big traffic jam. Traffic counts are widely used in optimization of traffic networks, but this kind of data is not available everywhere. In order to improve the reliability and make better use of the capacity of traffic networks, urban properties (such as living density, age composition etc.) are introduced, which can provide more information combined with road properties. This paper surveys the information that we could obtain from urban properties, and the possibilities in which the O-D matrix estimation can be improved.
