Abstract:

Understanding whether the handgrip strength requirements are in excess of an individual's capability is essential in preventing musculoskeletal injuries by repetitive gripping activities. However, handgrip strength varied among different populations. The purpose of this study was to synthesize the isometric handgrip strength for Chinese adults. We applied three databases, i.e., Web of Science, EMBASE, and MEDLINE, to search relevant articles by using `Chinese' and `grip strength' as search terms. A total of seven articles met the inclusion criteria and included in the review. The current situations of handgrip strength for Chinese adults were discussed. Moreover, several recommendations for future handgrip strength studies were proposed.
