Abstract:
IPv6 over the TSCH mode of IEEE 802.15.4e (6TiSCH) is the wireless sensor network protocol standard proposed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) for Internet of Things (IoT). Aside from 6TiSCH, there are other existing protocol standards for wireless sensor networks which are suitable to be deployed in industrial applications. However, there are no comprehensive performance evaluations done on 6TiSCH to date. This paper aims to focus on the formation of networks involving 6TiSCH, and evaluate its performance in terms of end-to-end latency, network throughput, and packet loss through simulative analysis. Open-source software from OpenWSN project developed by UC Berkeley and Wireshark network protocol analyzer were used for the experiment. A network of five motes were simulated using Openvisualizer where each simulation run had different number of channels enabled with a preconfigured Packet Delivery Ratio value for each. The contribution of this project will help in providing insight on the performance of 6TiSCH for further development and optimization of the protocol.
