Abstract:

Because of the more and more diversified service, SFC needs to be dynamically and feasibly implemented. Thanks to NFV and SDN ideas, the new SFC architecture is defined to meet the requirements in the IETF. Based on the OpenFlow, the approach of the single flow table is used to implement SFC, but it is inefficient. As the number of service chains increases, the flow entries in the flow table increase dramatically. Looking up and matching such a large flow table in the switch can lead to time delay, and it also makes it more difficult to update the forwarding path. Then, the multiple flow tables approach is proposed to improve the efficient for SFC. But it involves the algorithm complexity of mapping and maintaining the multiple flow tables, VLAN IDs and port numbers. In this paper we propose an RNS based forwarding approach to improve SFC implementation, which is a simpler solution with higher efficiency and lower latency.
