Abstract:

Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) are a new innovative technology that will revolutionize beyond 5G wireless networks. This paper investigates the performance of cascaded RIS-aided wireless networks in terms of the outage probability (OP) over Nakagami-m fading channels. An efficient approximation method is provided to find the probability distribution function (PDF) and OP for the effective end-to-end communication. Obtained PDF and OP expressions are valid for any number of cascaded RISs and reflecting elements per individual RIS, N. Analytical results are corroborated with Monte Carlo simulations under different system parameters. Results reveal that the increase in the fading parameter m and number N per RIS improves the outage performance of the system.
