Abstract:

With the development of vehicle-to-vehicle(V2V) communications technology, cooperative driving has attracted extensive attention for solving road related issues, such as the safety issues, and congestion issues. Lane change is one of the most common and basic driving modes of vehicles, which plays an important role on road safety. However, few researchers have focused on the study of employing lane change strategies for solving road safety issues, especially in the blocked states. This paper proposes a lane change strategy called Safely Change Lane(SCL), which controls the direction of the blocked vehicles changing lanes to reduce unnecessary lane changes for improving road safety. In order to verify the performance, the proposed model is simulated on SUMO and compared with Altruistic Cooperative Driving(ACD) strategy. The results show that the proposed SCL can improve road safety and realize fuel economy while maintaining traffic efficiency.
