Abstract:

In this paper, we propose a weighted positioning algorithm to improve the performance of an airborne relay-based positioning system (ARPS) in a remote positioning environment. ARPS can provide location services using 2-hop transmission over airborne relays (ARs). However, in environments where the user is far from the reference stations (RSs), geometrical errors have a significant impact on the user's position accuracy. Weighted APRS (W-ARPS) algorithm calculates the user's position by assigning different weights to the pseudorange between the AR and user based on the dilution of precision (DOP) of the AR. To verify the performance of W-ARPS, it was compared through simulations with the ARPS in terms of position error. The results show that W-ARPS algorithm is more prone to accurate positioning errors than the conventional ARPS algorithm, especially in remote location environments.
