Abstract:
In this paper, we present two approaches for the Millimeter-waves (mmW) generation fabricated using active/passive photonic integration technology. The first approach uses the optical heterodyne technique, an 4-channel AWG based laser is built in order to generate a 113 GHz signal. The second approach uses pulsed sources, an on-chip-multiple colliding pulse mode locked laser generating optical modes with a 100 GHz frequency spacing. Multimode interference reflectors (MIRs) are used in both structures allowing to replace and the cleaved facet of the chip to have a precise control of the location of all the optical components within the Fabery-Perot cavity. Moreover, a data transmission over a wireless link at a carrier frequency around 100 GHz is presented, in which the two laser are free-running.
