Abstract:

We explore the use of Multi-core Fibers to implement a Space Division Multiplexing optical network capable of addressing future challenges of 5/6G fronthaul architecture. The work proposes different designs that can support Radio Access Network and Passive Optical Networks in parallel with the integration of Power over Fiber (PoF) technology. Different scenarios are presented, being theoretically analysed with simulation and tested with some experiments. The analysis shows the data transmission capacity, PoF feeding capability and its impact on data signal quality.
