Abstract:
We present a framework for environmental monitoring in PON, with an emphasis on inline measurement of vibration anomalies along the fiber. We propose the use of quasi-coherent detection paired with photonic integration to achieve a simplified and cost-effective sensing solution, when compared to legacy coherent designs. Through simulation and experimental work, we study fiber sensing strategies, exploring the potential of such technologies for widespread adoption and implementation of data enhanced PON infrastructure.
