Abstract:

In this paper, a novel fiber amplifier based on a praseodymium-doped fluoroindate glass has been designed. The amplification wavelength band is centred around \lambda_{s}=4 \mu \mathrm{m}, the pump wavelength is \lambda_{p}=1550 \mathrm{~nm}. A homemade computer code has been developed to simulate the amplifier behaviour, taking into account spectroscopical parameters from literature. The electromagnetic investigation of the fiber is developed via a Finite Element Method (FEM) software. Several simulations are performed considering different values of the fiber length and the input pump power, with the aim of obtaining wide wavelength bandwidth.
