Abstract:
Extension of network lifetime and reduction of latency are two of the most challenging topics in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). This work presents a novel approach utilizing of Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) optimization. We explain how such an approach is made viable for WSNs via new wireless software defined network (WSDN) architectures and protocols. Our optimization procedure adapts to changing network conditions, particularly to uncertainties in energy consumption and link power requirements to allow for a settable trade off between WSN network latency and network lifetime. We furnish a performance evaluation of our algorithm at a particular setting against a fairly large collection of simulated sensor networks with random node placements.
