Abstract:

Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation networks are expected to play a significant role in the future, due to the predominance of global coverage with low propagation delays. In this paper, the channel assignment schemes regarding to LEO satellite handover have been investigated. Two different queuing disciplines are assumed as First-input-First-output (FIFO) Queuing and Fixed Channel Reservation (FCR). In FCR, a number of channels in each cell are reserved exclusively for handover call. The FIFO queuing employs a similar channel assignment strategy, but allows additional queuing for handover call. An analytical approach has been developed to compare the schemes.
