Abstract:
The paper presents peculiar multi-n-phase low torque ripple permanent magnet machine solutions. It will be shown that a particular choice in the phases to poles relationship allows to obtain a low torque ripple machine. A simple parametric model allows prediction of torque ripple harmonic orders. Once a simple stator structure is chosen, different rotors topologies have been coupled in a simulation environment. The simulations compare the different multi-n-phase solutions and their corresponding 3-phase counterparts showing the better performance of the multi-n-phase one. The torque performance of the machines are also evaluated under fault condition in the multi-n-phase solutions.
