Abstract:

A new Fault Tolerant System (FTS) for six-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) working at variable speed is proposed in this paper. The strategy is able to tolerate up to four open-circuit faults and it aims to minimize torque ripple and reduce the reactive power on the machine operating under fault and no-fault conditions. The control algorithm is based on the theory of instantaneous active and reactive power and is implemented with two conventional three-phase inverters. The FTS consists of two blocks per converter, the fault detection algorithm and a new power limitation algorithm per phase. Simulation results that validate this proposal are also presented.
