Abstract:

During the exploitation of the battle tank, there are different operations that the Gun control system is expected to perform. Most of the contemporary battle tanks employ electrohydraulic drive for the Gun Control system operation. With the advent of compact PMSM motors having good dynamic response, the Gun control system drive choice is moving towards electric drive in view of low maintenance overhead. There are different load conditions that the motor drive has to tackle for different durations and thus different loads and their respective duty cycles have to be estimated. Computations methods are described for computing the motor rating under these different load conditions and duty cycles. From these observations, certain guidelines are arrived at, for selecting the motors for the gun control application.
