Abstract:

To cope with the challenge of reduced life cycles of products and, thus, reduced life cycles of production systems, a holistic life cycle consideration is necessary to reveal and use hidden optimization potentials. Therefore, this paper focuses on the End-of-Life phase of production systems and on the impact and range its End-of-Life scenarios provide. To enable this phase being supported by future software tools, a generic model is developed as a basis. Those tools could qualify the tool users to execute a comprehensible and verifiable decision-making process about which End-of-Life scenario is optimal for a specific production system regarding ecological impact and inherent value recovery.
