The energy storage system is becoming a common facility for renewable generation systems. This paper proposed a series type energy storage system (ESS) topology, which is specifically designed for photovoltaic (PV) power generation and storage system applications. Compared with the traditional grid side parallel installed PV energy storage system, the proposed ESS can not only suppress the power fluctuation to the grid, but also widen the MPPT range of PV generation system and deal with the grid faults. Related storage converter and corresponding system control algorithms are also discussed. A system simulation model is established in PLECS, the working principle and related control algorithm are validated by the simulation results.
